Danab Forces Conduct Operations in Lower Shabelle Region

Mogadishu – The Somali National Army, specifically the Danab Commandos, have carried out planned operations in areas of the Lower Shabelle region, targeting locations where the Al-Shabaab group had bases and centers from which they collected illegal taxes from the public, according to military officials.

The operations were conducted in the areas of Warmaxan, Tasxiille, Shareey, 10-Buundo, Tabeellaha, and the Donka area, where troops from the 161st Brigade of the 16th Danab Division conducted searches and follow-ups aimed at pursuing Al-Shabaab fighters.

The commanders leading the operation stated that the forces succeeded in destroying bases and locations that served as shelters for the group, which, as they reported, were used for planning attacks and collecting illegal funds from local residents.

Reports further indicate that Al-Shabaab fighters fled some of the targeted locations before the troops arrived, with the operation being part of efforts to enhance security in the region.

The Federal Government of Somalia has recently increased operations against Al-Shabaab in the southern and central regions of the country, stating that they will continue efforts to weaken the group's power.

There is no official report on the casualties resulting from the operation, and the situation in the areas operated in is reported to be stable.
