Deni announces he will not run for Puntland presidency for a third time

Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni has announced that he will not run for the presidency of Puntland for a third time, while also stating that the next role will be filled by the person nominated by the ruling party Kaah.

President Deni, speaking tonight in the city of Galkayo, said, “The constitution has allowed me to lead Puntland twice, and I was elected both times. I have two years left, and whoever wants the position should prepare for a free election that takes place on time; our party will have a candidate that we will build.”

Deni's statement removes speculation about the opening of the Puntland constitution, as the opposition was concerned that President Deni might run for a third time.
