A $3 Million Water Project Launched in Gaalkacyo

The President of Puntland, Siciid Cabdullaahi Deni Abdullahi Deni, officially launched the water project in the city of Gaalkacyo today, which is an important project that the community has long needed.

This project is aimed at providing a sustainable solution to the water problems faced by the city of Gaalkacyo, especially during the rainy seasons, and its funding is a collaboration between the government, expatriates, and the local community.

The first phase of the project is estimated to cost $3 million, with the Puntland government committing to provide $1 million, while the rest of the funding is expected from the community, local businesses, national companies, and Puntland expatriates.

The launch event, organized by the Gaalkacyo Development Committee, presented the overall plan for the project, the current state of its preparations, and the steps to be taken for its implementation. The committee stated that the project contract will soon be officially announced, which will be competed for in a transparent manner according to the established procedures.

The committee also presented the challenges related to the water supply in the city and the plan to overcome them, highlighting the impact of water on community life, the city's aesthetics, mobility, and the environment, as climate change has increased the need for Gaalkacyo to have a modern water management system.

During the event, some local companies directly deposited money into the project committee's account, and individuals and officials who previously participated in supporting the project, including ministers and parliamentarians, were also introduced.

President Deni urged the people of Gaalkacyo to clear the land and natural pathways where water flows, especially in areas where buildings obstruct water flow, and security agencies were instructed to cooperate with the committee on this matter.

The Gaalkacyo water project is expected to significantly improve the aesthetics, cleanliness, environmental health, and mobility of the city, and to play an important role in the future development of Gaalkacyo.
