Puntland Arrests 18 Soldiers Over Incident in Garoowe

Puntland has announced today the arrest of 18 soldiers from the Birmadka Police Force, who are accused of unrest and security violations that occurred on the 7th of this month in the city of Garoowe.

A press release from the Puntland Police stated that the Puntland Police is apologizing to the public for the unrest that occurred in the capital Garoowe on June 07, 2026, after a group of Birmadka Police unlawfully halted the movement of vehicles and disrupted security and order.

The Police Command clearly stated that this incident does not represent the system, ethics, and obligations of the Police Force, but was an organized act involving individuals with specific interests, whose aim was to damage the reputation of the forces and tarnish the image of the government.

The Puntland Police noted that the arrested soldiers are undergoing official investigations and will be presented to the Military Court.

The Puntland Police also wished the Birmadka Force a recovery and restoration of the reputation that was harmed following the incident in Garoowe.

The Puntland Police stated that maintaining security and order is a constitutional obligation and that no act against the stability of the country will be tolerated.
