Columbus, Ohio (WDN) – A 23-year-old Somali-American who was extradited from Somalia has appeared before a court in Ohio to face murder and aggravated robbery charges stemming from a fatal shooting that occurred in 2021.
The defendant, Hanut Abdulle, is accused in connection with the killing of Bryce Persang, who was fatally shot during an alleged armed robbery in Columbus on September 16, 2021. During his initial court appearance, the judge set bail at $2 million. If released pending trial, Abdulle would be required to surrender his passport and wear a GPS electronic monitoring device to track his movements.
According to investigators, Abdulle and a second suspect, Tahir Said, 24, are believed to have been involved in the fatal incident. Authorities say both men left the United States shortly after the shooting. Abdulle was later located in Somalia and extradited to the United States through cooperation between Somali and U.S. law enforcement agencies. The second suspect, Tahir Said, remains at large, and authorities continue efforts to locate and apprehend him.
The case has drawn attention not only because of the international manhunt and extradition but also because it underscores the enduring grief surrounding violent crime. For the victim’s family, the return of a suspect to face justice represents an important step in a case that has remained unresolved for nearly four years.
