Delegation from Both Houses of the Federal Parliament of Somalia Participates in the 2nd Conference of the Asian and African Parliamentary Assembly

A delegation from both Houses of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, participating in the 2nd Conference of the Asian and African Parliamentary Assembly taking place in Benghazi, Libya, held a special meeting with the Chairman of the Libyan House of Representatives and Chairman of the Asian and African Parliamentary Assembly, Aqila Salah Issa.

The BJFS delegation and the Chairman of the Libyan House of Representatives discussed the issue of Somali youth detained in Libyan government prisons and illegal facilities where these youths are held and mistreated, with some being treated in a manner that is contrary to humanity. The delegation also emphasized that these Somali youths are in difficult conditions, and it is crucial to provide them with care and a quick solution to address their situation, as well as to facilitate their return to their country.

The Chairman of the Libyan House of Representatives warmly welcomed the delegation and promised to address this issue, showing that he places special importance on addressing the problems facing Somali youth in Libya. He also promised to establish a parliamentary committee that will specifically monitor the situation of these youths in prisons and detention centers.

Both sides also discussed strengthening the relationship and cooperation between the parliaments of Somalia and Libya, exchanging experiences in legislation, oversight, and enhancing parliamentary collaboration between the two countries.
