Baidoa (WDN) — The Federal Government of Somalia has deployed additional security forces from Mogadishu to Baidoa, deepening an already volatile confrontation over the political future of South West State and raising fears that the federal authorities are preparing for a prolonged military standoff with forces loyal to former South West President Abdiasis Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen.
The reinforcements were reportedly flown into Baidoa strengthen security around key government installations and protect the administration headed by Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Adan Madoobe), whose installation has been fiercely contested by Laftagareen and his supporters.
