Egypt’s Sisi rejects interference in Somalia during talks with CIA chief

MOGADISHU (Somaliguardian) – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi rejected any interference that threatens Somalia’s sovereignty, unity or territorial integrity during talks with CIA Director John Ratcliffe, reaffirming Cairo’s support for Somalia’s security and stability, Egypt Today reported on Sunday.

The meeting, attended by Egyptian intelligence chief Hassan Mahmoud Rashad, focused on developments in Somalia, security in the Horn of Africa and international maritime security, according to the report.

Sisi reiterated Egypt’s opposition to any actions that could undermine Somalia’s sovereignty or territorial integrity, while reaffirming Cairo’s support for efforts to strengthen the country’s security and stability.

Ratcliffe praised Egypt’s role in supporting stability in Africa and called for continued coordination between Cairo and Washington on regional security, the report said.

The two sides also discussed strengthening intelligence cooperation to counter terrorism, organised crime and cross-border threats affecting the Red Sea and the wider region.

The talks highlighted the security links between developments in Somalia, the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, where threats to maritime security can have consequences beyond the region.

Egypt and the United States have maintained security and intelligence cooperation on terrorism, transnational crime and regional stability, with the Red Sea and Horn of Africa remaining important areas of strategic concern.
