Galkacyo Mourns Elder Shot Dead on His Way to Prayer

Galkacyo (WDN) — Grief and shock have spread across Galkacyo following the killing of respected community elder and businessman Ahmed Yusuf Haameey, who was reportedly shot dead while making his way to a mosque for the Maghrib prayer.

The elder was on his way to perform his evening prayers when armed men reportedly opened fire on him, striking him multiple times before fleeing the scene. He never reached the mosque.

His death has left his family, friends and members of the community mourning the loss of a man known for his role as a traditional elder and his place within the Puntland community in Galkacyo. No suspects have been officially arrested, and the identities of those responsible remain unknown.

The circumstances surrounding the killing have deepened the sadness and anxiety in the city. Preliminary reports have suggested that the attack may have been connected to a clan-related dispute or revenge, but authorities have not confirmed the motive or established who ordered or carried out the killing.
