Hassan Sheikh Meets Museveni in Kampala as Somalia Faces Security and Political Crossroads

Kampala, Uganda (WDN)— Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Kampala on Friday for high-level talks with Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, ahead of a summit of troop-contributing countries to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).

The meeting comes at a pivotal moment for Somalia, as the country confronts mounting security challenges, uncertainty over international support for AUSSOM, and an unresolved political dispute over the country’s electoral framework.

According to the Somali Presidency, the two leaders held extensive discussions on the longstanding bilateral relationship between Somalia and Uganda, reaffirming their commitment to expanding cooperation in security, politics, economic development, and institutional capacity-building.

Security dominated the discussions, with both presidents reviewing the ongoing campaign against Al-Shabaab and the need to strengthen regional cooperation in counterterrorism operations.
