Mogadishu (WDN) – The Somali Civil Society Organizations (SONSA) has welcomed renewed efforts to revive political dialogue between the Federal Government of Somalia and the Somali Future Council, describing the initiative as a crucial opportunity to resolve the country’s deepening political crisis through peaceful negotiations.
In a press statement issued on July 4, 2026, SONSA expressed strong support for the International Community’s efforts to facilitate the resumption of talks, saying meaningful dialogue remains the most viable path toward a lasting political settlement. The coalition emphasized that a successful agreement would lay the foundation for completing Somalia’s state-building process, restoring political stability, and delivering credible, transparent elections that enjoy broad public confidence.
SONSA warned that the country’s prolonged political deadlock has already taken a visible toll on Somalia’s state-building agenda, electoral process, institutional stability, and public trust in government. It urged all political actors to demonstrate statesmanship, compromise, and a sense of national responsibility in order to reach an inclusive agreement that serves the interests of the Somali people.
The coalition also stressed that civil society has an essential role to play in supporting the diplomatic efforts led by Somalia’s international partners. It argued that civil society organizations can help bridge political divisions, reduce mistrust among stakeholders, and create a more conducive environment for meaningful negotiations.
