Somali Pirates Have The Released Hijacked Vessel

Bossaso (WDN) — Somali pirates have reportedly released a vessel they had held hostage since April, according to security sources cited by local media, highlighting the continuing vulnerability of commercial shipping in waters already facing growing security threats from piracy and the conflict in Yemen.

The vessel, which was reportedly carrying 17 crew members, was released under circumstances that have not yet been fully explained. Security sources have not disclosed the ship’s name, flag, exact location of the hijacking or the precise date of its release.

It also remains unclear whether the vessel was freed following negotiations, an agreement with the pirates or the payment of a ransom. No details have been provided on whether any money changed hands.

The reported release was first carried by AFP, which said the vessel had been seized by Somali pirates in April.
