Mogadishu (WDN) – Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has reportedly held online consultations with prominent traditional elders and clan leaders from Galmudug, urging them to safeguard the region’s stability amid growing political tensions surrounding its future leadership.

According to sources familiar with the discussions, Farmaajo expressed concern over what he described as attempts to influence Galmudug’s political future from outside the state, warning that such actions could undermine years of progress in reconciliation, state-building, and security.

The former president is said to have emphasized that the people of Galmudug should retain the exclusive right to determine their political leadership through a transparent and credible process, free from external pressure or political engineering. Sources indicate that both Farmaajo and the elders agreed on the importance of preserving peace and preventing any developments that could plunge the region into instability. They reportedly stressed that Galmudug’s leadership should emerge through a process accepted by local stakeholders rather than through decisions imposed from outside the state.

“A peaceful Galmudug benefits all Somalis,” Farmaajo reportedly told the elders during the consultations, underscoring the region’s strategic importance to national stability. The discussions also focused on ongoing reconciliation efforts among various communities within Galmudug. Farmaajo is said to have encouraged the elders to participate actively in any dialogue initiatives aimed at strengthening unity and preventing political divisions from escalating into broader conflict.
