Kismayo (WDN) – On the occasion of the Eid Adha celebration, Jubaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam Madobe has marked a gesture of compassion and reconciliation after granting a presidential pardon to 31 inmates held at Kismayo Central Prison.
The move has been widely welcomed across Jubaland, with many families celebrating the return of their loved ones in time to share the joy and blessings of Eid. According to a statement issued by the Presidency, the released prisoners had been convicted of minor offenses.
In a particularly heartwarming gesture, President Ahmed Madobe personally paid off the debts owed by 21 of the inmates, clearing the way for their release so they could reunite with their families during the holiday celebrations.
“Starting today, 26 May 2026, the President of Jubaland has granted a general pardon to prisoners convicted of minor offenses and detained at Kismayo Central Prison. The total number of released inmates is 31, including 21 whose debts were personally settled by the President,” the official statement said.
