Mogadishu (Caasimada Online) – The international Somali referee, Omar Abdiqadir Cartan, is likely to officiate matches in the Egyptian Premier League after the Somali Football Federation submitted an official request to its counterpart in that country.

Egyptian media has reported that Somalia's request has been delivered to the football authorities in that country, with the final decision from the Egyptian Football Association now awaited.

The advisor on refereeing in Egypt, Samir Osman, confirmed that they have received a letter from Somalia, stating that the refereeing administration supports Cartan's inclusion among the referees of that league.

“Yes, we have received a letter from the Somali Football Federation, and we are awaiting the decision of the Egyptian Football Association. From our administrative side, we agree, and he will greatly contribute to the Egyptian league,” said Samir Osman.

This matter arose after social media spread reports claiming that the Somali referee would join the referees working in the Egyptian league, although the association in that country has not yet announced an official decision.

Omar Cartan has gained a reputation among football referees in the African continent in recent years. He has received continental recognition and won the Referee of the Year award from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The Egyptian league is among the most-watched football competitions in the African continent, featuring historic teams and quality players. If Somalia's request is approved, it will provide Cartan with an opportunity to further expand his refereeing experience in international competitions.
