Baydhabo (Caasimada Online) – Various reports are emerging regarding the casualties from a fierce battle that occurred this morning in the city of Baydhabo, which involved government forces and those loyal to former South West President Abdicasiis Lafta-gareen.

The fighting erupted early this morning after Lafta-gareen's loyal forces attacked the city and faced strong resistance from the Federal Government of Somalia forces.

Reports indicate that the attacking forces entered parts of the Baydhabo district, the capital of the Bay region, but hours later withdrew from the city.

The battle also resulted in significant casualties, including deaths and injuries among various individuals, both military and civilians.

The overall situation in the city is reported to have returned to normal, with government forces fully in control, visible in neighborhoods and main roads.

On the other hand, the attacking forces are also located on the outskirts of Baydhabo, from where they initially launched the attack, where they have important bases and centers.

This force, part of the South West militia, was previously expelled from the city following changes made by the government there, and since then, efforts to regain control of Baydhabo to continue their security operations have failed.

However, this battle comes as elections for the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of the South West State are expected to be held, which the attacking forces had previously warned about.
