Gen. Gen. Jimcaale Jaamac Takar agrees to return to Puntland forces

Saturday 15 Aug 2025 {HMC} Gen. Jimcaale Jaamac Takar, who leads the Danab forces stationed at the Ligle camp in the city of Garoowe, has finally agreed to return to the Puntland Defense Forces, following prolonged negotiations between the parties.

Gen. Jimcaale is reported to have withdrawn his decision to join the Federal Government of Somalia, while the Danab forces he leads have been receiving salaries from the Federal Government for nearly a year.

Puntland has also accepted that Gen. Jimcaale will remain the commander of the Danab forces, and it has also been reported that they have reversed previous decisions regarding the prosecution of some opposition politicians from the Nugaal region.

This agreement came after negotiations that lasted nearly a month and 15 days, which were mediated by some of the elders from the Nugaal region.

The mediation committee was chaired by the former President of Puntland, Senator Cabdiraxmaan Maxamed Maxamuud Faroole, and the meeting that concluded the negotiations took place at the residence of Senator Faroole in the city of Garoowe.

According to the agreement, the forces based at the Ligle camp will rejoin the Puntland Defense Forces. The committee of elders and members of parliament from the Nugaal region are expected to visit the camp on Sunday, while the registration of the forces will begin on Monday.

This agreement is seen as an important step in resolving the conflict between Gen. Jimcaale Takar and Puntland, while also removing the presence of Federal Government forces that have been stationed at the Ligle camp for nearly a year.

This move also paves the way for Puntland to regain other forces that had previously joined the Federal Government, as the conflict between Puntland and the central government still persists over issues related to security, politics, and military administration.
