The Future Council presents a transitional direct election model

Jun 20 (Jowhar) - The Somali Future Council has stated in a press release issued today that it supports the transitional direct elections model, describing it as a pathway to achieving political stability and a comprehensive agreement that can be implemented in the country.

The press release issued by the council announced its readiness for dialogue and political concessions to reach a national consensus regarding the electoral process.

The press release stated, “Somalia is in a sensitive political phase, which requires a voting process that aligns with the existing conditions, while also safeguarding the 4.5 clan representation formula. The council emphasized that its support is contingent upon achieving broad political consensus and that the electoral process should be based on consultation and an agreement reached by the political stakeholders in the country.”

The Somali Future Council also expressed its opposition to halting elections or creating delays that could lead to political turmoil. It called for the continuation of political dialogues to reach a sustainable solution that saves the country from conflict and division.

On the other hand, the council stated that it will soon officially present details, guiding principles, and procedures related to the model it supports, to ensure participation from all political and social sectors in Somalia.
