IGAD calls for continued dialogue with the opposition of the Federal Government of Somalia

Djibouti – IGAD has detailed the points that emerged from the consultations held in Mogadishu between May 13 and May 15, 2026, which took place between the Federal Government of Somalia and the opposition parties.

A press release from the IGAD Secretariat stated that the organization welcomes the direct cooperation of the Somali parties and encourages the continuation of dialogue to achieve a comprehensive and lasting solution to the ongoing issues.

IGAD emphasized that sustained political participation is crucial for maintaining stability in Somalia, strengthening democratic governance, and accelerating the processes of state-building in the country.

Additionally, the Secretariat called on all Somali stakeholders to prioritize solutions that enhance national unity, public trust, and the stability and long-term development of government institutions.

Finally, IGAD reaffirmed its support for the efforts led by Somalis to promote inclusive governance, maintain peace and security, and ensure a stable future for the Somali people and the entire region.
