Shooting causes deaths and injuries today in a market in Garoowe city

Sunday 11 Oct 2026 {HMC} two civilians have died, and four others have been injured after an armed man opened fire at a business location in the Inji market of Garoowe city, the capital of Puntland Administration.

Reports regarding this incident indicate that the armed man opened fire at the shoe market located within the Inji market, which is one of the busiest commercial areas in Garoowe.

The gunfire resulted in the deaths of two people and injuries to four others, who were taken to the Garoowe General Hospital for medical attention.

The hospital administration stated that one of the injured individuals was brought in dead, while the second person died from blood loss, despite medical efforts being made. They added that some of the injured individuals are in critical condition.

Eyewitnesses reported that before the shooting occurred, an argument had taken place between the armed man and other individuals present at the scene, which later escalated into a physical altercation and gunfire.

The perpetrator of the act is said to have fled the scene. Unconfirmed reports also suggest that the man was under the influence of alcohol.

So far, the official reason behind this incident remains unknown. Security agencies and the Puntland administration have not yet commented on the incident.
