Head of AUSSOM and EU Ambassador Discuss Peace and Security in Somalia

Mogadishu – The African Union Special Representative for Somalia and Head of the African Union Mission in Support of the Stabilization of Somalia (AUSSOM), Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, today held a meeting in Mogadishu with the European Union Ambassador to Somalia, Ambassador Francesca Di Mauro.

The meeting focused on efforts to strengthen peace, security, and stability in Somalia, with both sides discussing the responsibilities of AUSSOM, the support provided to the Somali Security Forces, and the importance of further strengthening cooperation between the parties concerned with the country's security.

Ambassador Diene thanked the European Union for its continued support for the operations of the African Union and the efforts led by Somalia to achieve peace and security.

For her part, Ambassador Francesca Di Mauro praised the role of AUSSOM in supporting the Federal Government of Somalia, particularly in protecting the public and critical infrastructure, as well as the close cooperation it has with the Somali Security Forces to mitigate the threat of Al-Shabaab.

Both sides ultimately reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation and supporting efforts to achieve lasting peace, security, and stability in Somalia.

This meeting comes at a time when efforts are underway to enhance the capacity of Somali security institutions and international cooperation to support the peace and stability process in the country.
