President Hassan Sheikh Participates in the Commemoration of the 66th Anniversary of the Independence of the Northern Regions

Mogadishu – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, participated this evening in a large event commemorating the 66th anniversary of the independence of the northern regions of Somalia, which falls on June 26, 1960.

The event honored the struggle for Somali independence and the role played by Somali heroes in the quest for freedom, marking the beginning of the implementation of the vision of Somali unity and governance.

In a speech delivered at the event, President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud noted that the freedom was achieved through sacrifice, bravery, and unity shown by Somali heroes, calling for the preservation of this historic legacy.

The President stated that Somalia still faces challenges affecting unity, peace, and governance; however, there are significant opportunities that require the people and the leadership of the country to jointly benefit from in order to further strengthen the reconstruction and development of the country.

Finally, the President extended congratulations to all Somali people on the occasion of June 26, calling for the strengthening of unity, peace, and efforts to build a united, stable, and developed Somalia.
