A Somali man arrested for the murder of a Moroccan woman

Amsterdam (Caasimada Online) – The Netherlands police have arrested a 23-year-old Somali man, who is suspected of being involved in the murder of Hajar, a 29-year-old woman of Moroccan descent.

The body of Hajar was found in a bag in the waters near Amsteldijk in the city of Amsterdam, after she was reported missing earlier this month in October.

One of her relatives informed the police of her disappearance on the evening of October 4th. On the same day, security cameras recorded Hajar and the man now arrested, together near the RAI center in Amsterdam.

The police classified her disappearance the next day as a high-risk case and began search efforts. When they failed to find her, investigators released her image on October 13th, after consulting with her family.

On the morning of October 16th, a passerby saw a bag containing Hajar's body in the waters around Amsteldijk.

Investigators confirmed that she had been murdered, and they believe she likely died shortly after being reported missing.

On the evening of October 19th, the Somali man was questioned by the police as a witness. However, further investigations conducted the following morning indicated the possibility that he was involved in her death.

This led the police to issue a notice seeking information. The suspect was arrested on Tuesday , when police were called to a violent incident at a house in the Koggenland district.

} A man known to the suspect was injured in the incident and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The arrested man had been living in the Netherlands since 2009 and had held permanent residency since 2014.

He is currently being held under restrictions allowing him to only communicate with his lawyer, while investigators are trying to determine the circumstances surrounding Hajar's death and the location where the murder occurred.
