Shock UN Report: Mogadishu Clashes Leave 13 Dead, 189 Wounded, and Nearly 12,500 Families Displaced

Mogadishu (WDN) – The true human toll of the recent political violence in Mogadishu is beginning to emerge, with a joint report by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and humanitarian agencies revealing a devastating picture of death, injury, and mass displacement across the Somali capital.

According to the report released on Friday, at least 13 people were killed and 189 others injured during the clashes that recently rocked several neighborhoods of Mogadishu, underscoring the growing dangers posed by Somalia’s escalating political crisis.

Even more alarming, the violence forced nearly 12,500 families to flee their homes, many escaping under fire as armed confrontations and heavy gunfire spread through parts of the city. “The recent violence has had a severe impact on civilians, particularly women, children, and other vulnerable groups,” the report stated.

Humanitarian officials warned that the crisis is rapidly evolving into a major displacement emergency, with thousands of newly displaced residents now facing uncertain conditions after abandoning their homes in search of safety. According to UNHCR, the displaced families are in urgent need of shelter, food, clean drinking water, medical care, and other essential humanitarian assistance.
