How did the pirates captured in Puntland escape?

Garoowe (Caasimada Online) – Nearly 20 prisoners from the piracy group captured on the SIBU 1 ship escaped last night from the hands of Puntland, while they were being taken to the city of Garoowe, according to reports.

The incident also resulted in the death of one of the prisoners, while another was injured as the prisoners attempted to escape from the guarding forces.

The journey of the prisoners began in the Garacad area, where they were picked up, and they were being taken to the Puntland headquarters in Garoowe. However, the escape occurred in the Shakaal area, which is under the Jariiban district, close to the border between the Nugaal and Mudug regions.

Reports regarding the incident further indicate that the escaped prisoners included two individuals who were recently captured in Garacad, who were said to be part of the piracy group that boarded the Turkish ship Lutuf.

So far, there has been no official statement from Puntland regarding the escape of the prisoners, although various reports are emerging about the circumstances of the incident and how the prisoners managed to escape from the forces.

Puntland had previously stated that the number of prisoners captured on the SIBU 1 ship was 46 individuals. However, when the prisoners were brought to Garacad, independent reports indicated that their number was 21 members.

The SIBU 1 ship was freed on Friday during an operation coordinated by Iraqi militias associated with the company owning the ship and the Puntland Maritime Police Forces (PMPF), after the pirates had taken control.

The escape of these prisoners has now raised questions about how the security of the prisoners was maintained while they were being transported to Garoowe and how they managed to escape from the hands of the forces.
