SoDMA and the Commander of the Naval Forces Discuss El Niño Preparedness

Mogadishu – The Chairman of the Somali National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Macallin Abdulle, today held a meeting at the Agency's headquarters with the Commander of the Somali Navy and Coastal Defense, Brigadier General Abdiwahab Abdullahi Omar.

The meeting focused on humanitarian emergencies, particularly the El Niño forecast, the role of the Navy, and preparations to mitigate the impacts of floods and heavy rains.

Both sides discussed how to develop a unified plan in which the national forces participate in preparedness and response efforts, to strengthen the efforts to save vulnerable people, especially communities living along the coasts and areas that may be affected by flooding.

The Commander of the Somali Navy and Coastal Defense, Brigadier General Abdiwahab Abdullahi Omar, stated that they will closely collaborate with SoDMA and the national preparedness plan.

Finally, the Chairman of SoDMA, Mr. Mahmoud Macallin Abdulle, praised the Navy and its leadership for their preparedness, urging them to demonstrate vigor and additional efforts to save the people and reduce the impacts of natural disasters.
