Somali Opposition Submits Key Security Proposals to Turkey as Political Dialogue Gains Momentum

Mogadishu(WDN) – Somalia’s opposition leaders have submitted a series of security-related proposals to Turkey, which is facilitating talks between the Federal Government and opposition groups aimed at addressing disputes over elections, constitutional reforms, and the country’s political future.

The development is being viewed as a positive step toward easing political tensions and creating an environment conducive to meaningful dialogue between Somalia’s major political stakeholders. Speaking on behalf of the opposition, Abdirahman Abdishakur said preliminary consultations had progressed constructively and that significant progress had been made in agreeing on the framework and agenda for the formal negotiations expected to begin in the coming days.

According to opposition representatives, one of the key issues raised during the consultations was the security situation in Mogadishu. Opposition leaders expressed concern about recent security-related tensions and emphasized the importance of creating an atmosphere of confidence and mutual trust before substantive political negotiations commence.

The opposition has called for measures that would help reduce tensions and encourage all parties to participate in the dialogue process without fear or uncertainty. They argue that a stable and secure political environment is essential for the success of any negotiations intended to address Somalia’s longstanding constitutional and electoral challenges.
