Mogadishu (WDN) — More than two months of internationally mediated negotiations between Somalia’s Federal Government and opposition leaders have reportedly ended without agreement, plunging the country deeper into constitutional and electoral uncertainty.
The talks, facilitated by international partners, sought to bridge differences over Somalia’s electoral model and constitutional disputes. Instead, they concluded in deadlock, with opposition leaders accusing President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of refusing to make the political compromises necessary to reach a national consensus.
Following the collapse of the negotiations, the opposition-led Future Forum proposed the establishment of an inclusive transitional governing authority, arguing that such an arrangement is now the only viable mechanism to restore political legitimacy, rebuild public confidence, and steer the country toward agreed constitutional and electoral reforms.
