Mogadishu (WDN) — Somalia’s Supreme Court has annulled the results of the July 30 combined parliamentary and local elections in Galmudug, delivering a potentially consequential setback to the election model championed by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
The court ruled that the elections were not conducted in accordance with Somalia’s Constitution and electoral laws, rendering the results invalid. The decision effectively places a major legal question mark over an electoral process that critics have accused the federal government of using to advance a predetermined political outcome.
