This official visit is part of efforts to strengthen defense and security cooperation between Somalia and Turkey.

The visit of the Commander is significant as it represents a new step in strengthening the military relationship between the two countries, which have long had close cooperation in defense, security, and military training. Turkey has played an important role in training thousands of Somali soldiers, including those trained in Turkey and at the TURKSOM base in Mogadishu.

During the visit, the Commander and his delegation are expected to meet with senior officials and leaders from the Turkish side, focusing on enhancing military cooperation, training, and capacity building of the army. Somalia and Turkey signed a framework agreement on defense and economic cooperation in 2024, in which Turkey agreed to support Somalia's maritime security and overall defense capacity. This step is part of the Somali government's efforts to build a capable army that can defend the nation.
