Turkey has arrested more than 200 people accused of terrorism ahead of the NATO summit

The Ankara prosecutor's office stated that 209 people have been arrested, while 32 others are still at large. Turkey has announced a ban on protests as preparations are underway for the NATO summit scheduled to take place next month in the capital.

Turkish security forces arrested more than 200 people on Tuesday suspected of having links to the group calling itself the Islamic State and other groups that Ankara considers terrorist organizations, prosecutors said.

NATO leaders will gather in Turkey's capital Ankara to participate in the annual summit of the Alliance next month, and the government has begun implementing security measures and strengthening police presence.

U.S. President Donald Trump and leaders of the other 31 member countries are expected to attend the summit taking place on July 7 and 8.

Operations by the police to locate suspects are ongoing.

The prosecution stated that 56 of those arrested were members accused of being part of the group calling itself the Islamic State, while 35 others were members of the People's Liberation Party/Front (DHKP-C), a Marxist group that Turkey has designated as a terrorist organization and which has claimed responsibility for previous attacks in the country.
