U.S. Congressional Delegation Reaffirms Support for Jubaland as Strategic Frontline Against Al-Shabaab

Kismayo (WDN) – The Jubaland State Presidency has released details of a high-level meeting held in Kismayo on 29 July 2026, where President Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe) hosted a senior delegation from the United States Congress and the U.S. Embassy in Somalia, underscoring Washington’s continued interest in one of Somalia’s most strategically significant regions.

According to a statement issued by the Jubaland Presidency, the American delegation comprised 11 members of the U.S. Congress, led by Congressman Ronny Jackson, and included Justin Davis, the Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Somalia, along with other senior U.S. officials.

The talks focused on strengthening cooperation between Jubaland and the United States in the areas of counterterrorism, regional security, institution-building, and development assistance.

The visit comes at a time when Jubaland remains one of the Horn of Africa’s most strategically important territories. Bordering both Kenya and Ethiopia, the federal member state serves as a critical security buffer against the expansion of Al-Shabaab toward two of East Africa’s most important regional powers.
