Minister Ayub Participates in the 13th Global Forum on Urbanization in Baku

May 17(Jowhar) The Ministry of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing of Somalia is participating in the 13th Global Forum on Urbanization taking place in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

This international forum, organized by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, includes governments, international organizations, development banks, and various stakeholders working on urban issues, housing, and community development.

During the conference, Somalia today, Tuesday, chaired an international meeting held under the title:

“Reforming the Housing and Urban Development System in Somalia: Moving from Fragmentation to a Structured System.”

The meeting was led by the Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing of Somalia Ayub Ismail Yusuf, with representatives from international organizations and development partners in attendance.

The minister stated in his speech that the Somali government is implementing a plan to build a unified system that connects housing, land management, climate change adaptation, and local economic development, to strengthen stability and sustainable progress.

He also noted that the ministry has prepared studies and new plans to improve the housing and land management system in the country, which will serve as a foundation for urban reconstruction and the development of community services.

Additionally, the minister mentioned that Somalia is developing strategic projects in cities including Beledweyne, Doolow, and the Jasiira area of Mogadishu, focusing on affordable housing, economic infrastructure, and building resilient cities.

On the other hand, the minister is expected to deliver a speech tomorrow at a high-level ministerial meeting attended by various leaders and international heads, discussing housing, social integration, and poverty reduction, which is part of the official agenda of the WUF13 forum.
