Somali Minister Meets with the World Bank

Geneva, Switzerland – The Minister of the Ministry of Communications and Technology of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Mohamed Adam Macallim Somali, held a special meeting with the Vice President of the World Bank for Digital Transformation, Mr. Sangbu Kim, while participating in the High-Level WSIS+20 Conference taking place in Geneva. This meeting focused on the new direction of cooperation between Somalia and the World Bank.

This meeting is significant at this time, as it represents a new step for Somalia towards closer integration with the global technology community, with a shared priority on implementing the National Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) Plan. This plan is expected to serve as a foundation for connecting government services, facilitating service delivery, and boosting a technology-driven economy.

During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on how the support from the World Bank could align with the Federal Government of Somalia's reform plans, particularly in building digital services that reach citizens and businesses in the country.

Minister Somali emphasized that international cooperation is the most important pillar for accelerating digital transformation. He stated: “It is essential for countries to learn from each other's experiences, exchange knowledge, and adopt best practices for implementing digital transformation to ensure an inclusive digital future.”

Additionally, the Minister noted that Somalia has achieved reforms in the ICT legal framework and the development of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), which are efforts by the Federal Government of Somalia to build modern government services.

This meeting is part of the multilateral discussions that the Somali delegation is conducting in Geneva, aimed at expanding international cooperation and attracting additional support for implementing the country's digital transformation goals.

The WSIS Forum 2026 Ministerial Meeting brought together ministers and senior leaders from UN member states to discuss the implementation of the WSIS+20 outcomes, advancing digital transformation, and strengthening international cooperation.
