New Members of the South West Parliament Officially Begin Work

Baydhabo (Caasimada Online) – The new members of the House of Representatives of the South West State have officially begun work after being sworn in yesterday in the city of Baydhabo, the capital of the Bay region.

The new MPs were officially sworn in to fulfill their constitutional duties, and the event was attended by the interim leader of South West, Jibriil Cabdirashiid Xaaji, who was overseeing the swearing-in process.

The event was also attended by candidates running for the presidency of South West, members of the Federal Government of Somalia, traditional elders, representatives from civil society, and other invited guests.

In a speech delivered there, Jibriil Cabdirashiid Xaaji called on the new MPs to carry out their duties transparently and honestly, and to work for the interests of the public and the development of governance in South West.

He emphasized the importance of the House of Representatives taking a visible role in strengthening security, improving social services, and accelerating the state-building process in South West.

Jibriil also praised the smooth conduct of the swearing-in process, noting that this step is crucial for building state institutions and advancing the political process of the administration.

The swearing-in of the new members of the South West Parliament comes at a time when armed clashes have occurred in the city of Baydhabo between forces of the Federal Government of Somalia and troops loyal to the former president of that administration, Cabdicasiis Xasan Maxamed (Lafta-gareen).

Lafta-gareen still insists that he is the legitimate president of South West, recently announcing that they are making efforts to regain control of the administration, which has further intensified the political tension in the regions of South West.
