Mogadishu (HOL) — National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has dismantled several al-Shabab networks that were allegedly attempting to infiltrate parts of Mogadishu and surrounding areas.
In a statement on Tuesday, NISA said its forces arrested 11 suspected operatives linked to the networks, which it said were preparing activities that threatened security.
advertisements The operations were carried out in Darussalam, Garasbaley, Kahda, Daynile and Afgoye following the planned security operations.
“Our forces also seized weapons and other materials that the suspects allegedly intended to use in planned attacks,” the statement added.
The agency said the operations were part of ongoing efforts to prevent al-Shabab and other militant groups from carrying out attacks aimed at undermining security and harming civilians.
Al-Shabab, an al-Qaeda-linked group, continues to carry out attacks in Somalia despite ongoing military operations by Somali forces and international partners.
