What is different about the new passport of Somalia?

The transition to the new passport has been greatly aided by the leaders of the immigration and nationality agency of Somalia, the introduction of the digital identification system and the National ID card that started in September 2023, with the number of people currently holding that card estimated to be nearly one million and a quarter citizens.

For a long time, there has been a challenge in verifying a person's nationality, as initially there was no complete data on the citizen, however, the preparation and implementation of laws and procedures to strengthen the identification system is still ongoing.
