The Parliament's Defense Committee Calls the Chief of Defense Forces and the Minister of Defense + Reason

Mogadishu (Caasimada Online) – The Defense Committee of the Somali Parliament has urgently summoned the Minister of Defense Ahmed Macalin Fiqi and the Chief of Defense Forces General Ibrahim Mohamed Mahmoud to address complaints regarding 6,000 soldiers, including retirees, disabled personnel, and families of deceased soldiers, whose rights have reportedly been cut.

Initially, the committee raised questions about the cutting of funds allocated for the orphans of the Defense Forces, describing it as unfortunate that the rights of those who sacrificed their lives for this country and those who became disabled while fighting the enemy are being undermined.

The committee presented 4 questions related to this matter and has given the Minister of Defense 72 hours to respond, and also requested that he and the Chief of Defense Forces urgently appear before the parliamentary defense committee.

“Mr. Minister, you are expected to respond in writing to the above questions within 72 hours. You are also required to appear before the Defense Committee along with the Chief of Defense Forces on the date mentioned below. Date: 04/10/2026 Time: 11:00 AM Location: Office of the Defense Committee, House of the People, Villa Hargeysa,” the statement said.

This action followed a debate today among members of the House of the People, who placed the main blame on the government of Prime Minister Hamza.

“Prime Minister Hamza and his ministers have cut the funds allocated for the orphans of the soldiers, and the Parliament is being called upon; if they do not come, the leadership of the council will lose its position,” said Dahir Amin Jeesow.

For his part, MP Abdullahi Carab also spoke on this matter, defending the families of deceased soldiers and the orphaned children who are said to have been deprived of their salaries.

“There is no one capable of cutting that money; it is required that the money be given, because the soldier first receives a salary and food is provided; if he dies, his family must be taken care of,” said MP Abdullahi Carab.
