Bosaso (WDN) — The deepening political and security rift between Somalia’s Federal Government and Puntland has reached another sensitive flashpoint after Puntland authorities reportedly stopped several officials, including two federal military officers, from leaving Bosaso Airport for Mogadishu.
The two officers were reportedly among federal personnel recently brought under the control of the Federal Government following developments in the Kuur-ilaalo area of Rako-Raaxo district. Also prevented from traveling was Abdulkadir Haji Abdullahi “Waraabe,” director of the orthopedic hospital in Carmo. Sultan Mahmoud Haji Abdullahi, a prominent traditional leader from Bari, was also briefly detained before being released.
Following his release, the Sultan called for the immediate release of those still being held, arguing that the individuals were traveling for personal reasons and had a legitimate right to do so. “They were traveling for their own personal interests and have the right to travel,” the Sultan said.
