Somali National Army Conducts Airstrikes in Middle Shabelle, Nearly 30 Al-Shabaab Members Killed

Mogadishu – The Somali National Army, in collaboration with international partners, has recently carried out consecutive airstrikes targeting locations where Al-Shabaab militants were present in the Middle Shabelle region.

A statement from the Ministry of Defense of Somalia indicated that aerial operations were conducted in the areas of Gayfo, Ruun Idiris, and Cali Gaduud, where Al-Shabaab had bases for organization, training camps, and warehouses for storing weapons and military supplies.

According to the statement, the first airstrike on June 24 targeted an Al-Shabaab organization base in the Gayfo area, hitting the militants present there and the weapons stored at the site.

The following day, June 25, three additional airstrikes were carried out, destroying a training center belonging to the group in the Ruun Idiris area. On the same day, another strike was conducted in the Cali Gaduud area, targeting members of Al-Shabaab who, according to the Ministry of Defense, were preparing to carry out attacks.

The Ministry of Defense reported that these operations resulted in the deaths of nearly 30 Al-Shabaab members, and the destruction of two vehicles, three motorcycles, weapons, ammunition, and military supplies used by the group.

The Federal Government of Somalia stated that it will continue operations against Al-Shabaab, in collaboration with national forces and international partners, to weaken the group's power and strengthen the country's security.
