Mogadishu (Caasimada Online) – The Minister of Defense of Somalia, Ahmed Macallin Fiqi, today received the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Somalia, Alper Aktaş, accompanied by the Commander of TÜRKSOM, Major General Sebahattin Kalkan, and senior officials.

Both sides discussed strengthening military cooperation between Somalia and Turkey, accelerating ongoing operations, particularly training for the forces, supporting the building of defense capabilities, and enhancing the strategic relationship between the two countries.

The Minister of Defense thanked the Turkish government for its unwavering role and support to the Somali government and people, particularly in the areas of security and the rebuilding of the forces.

He also specifically mentioned Turkey's role in combating terrorism, enhancing the forces, and the joint successes achieved through cooperation between Somalia and international partners.

Minister Fiqi stated that there are enemy groups against the state-building of Somalia, which he said are obstructing the strengthening relationship and cooperation between Somalia and Turkey.

He noted that the cooperation between the two countries plays a significant role in stabilizing the country and enhancing the capacity of Somalia's security forces.

The meeting was also attended by the Commander of the Land Forces, who is also the Deputy Commander of the Somali National Army, Brigadier General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, and other officials from both sides.
