The Turkish Government Denies That Somalia Imposed Visa Restrictions on Its Citizens

Saturday, September 19, 2026 {HMC} Turkey on Friday denied reports circulating on social media and some media outlets claiming that Somalia had imposed visa restrictions on Turkish citizens.

The Turkish Presidency's Directorate of Combating Disinformation stated that there had been no changes to the conditions governing the movement of citizens between the two countries.

"Reports claiming that Somalia has imposed visa restrictions on Turkish citizens are clearly disinformation," the Directorate said in a statement.

The Directorate attached to its statement a post published by the media account Serbest Gazete on platform X, which stated that Somalia had imposed visa restrictions on Turkey.

"No changes have been made to the current conditions governing the movement of Turkish and Somali citizens, and there is no new restriction or amendment to existing regulations," the Directorate added.

Citizens of both countries still travel under the previously existing balanced visa system, as stated in the announcement.

The Turkish Directorate described the claims as a campaign of misinformation targeting the strategic relationship and long-term cooperation between Ankara and Mogadishu.

It urged the public to seek travel-related information from official agencies.
