Al-Shabaab Militants Killed in Airstrikes in Goobo Area

A statement from the Ministry of Defense indicated that the Somali National Army, in collaboration with international partners, conducted airstrikes last night in the village of Goobo, approximately 10 KM north of the Maxaas district in the Hiiraan region, where Al-Shabaab militants were regrouping after suffering a defeat in battles that occurred yesterday afternoon in the Sullaay and Waab-weyn areas.

The report published on the Ministry's website mentioned that the airstrikes killed 42 militants belonging to Al-Shabaab, while 12 others were injured. Additionally, a military vehicle, bases, and defenses established by the militants in the area were destroyed.

The report further adds that ongoing operations have dealt a significant blow to Al-Shabaab, undermining their capacity for organization and movement, as in recent months, the militants have suffered heavy losses at the hands of the Somali National Army and international partners, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of militants and leaders from the group.

The Ministry of Defense commends the bravery and sacrifice of the Somali National Army and local militia, who together have defeated the Al-Shabaab militants. The Ministry also expresses gratitude to the international partners working with Somalia in the fight against and eradication of terrorism.

The report stated that the Ministry of Defense and the Command of the Somali National Army will continue operations targeting the leaders and militants of Al-Shabaab until the threat they pose to the Somali people is eliminated.
