South West claims that more than 70 Al-Shabaab members were killed in the Baydhabo battle

Baydhabo – The Presidency of the South West State of Somalia has stated in a press release that more than 70 members of the Al-Shabaab group were killed in today’s fighting in the city of Baydhabo, including foreign fighters.

The press release indicated that the fighting occurred in the city of Baydhabo after security forces thwarted an attack by the Al-Shabaab group on the city, which involved vehicles filled with explosives and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones).

The South West Presidency also stated that the fighting resulted in the seizure of weapons and military vehicles, while other vehicles used by the group were burned.

According to the press release, the attack targeted commercial areas, educational institutions, health centers, mosques, and other buildings in the city of Baydhabo.

The South West State has stated that its forces responded quickly to the attack and succeeded in repelling the group, asserting that the security situation in the city is under control.

On the other hand, the press release did not mention the casualties among the South West forces and the civilian population living in the city of Baydhabo.

The fighting today in Baydhabo comes at a time when there is a security crisis in the city, with heavy weapons and unmanned aerial vehicles being used.
