South West announces names of men leading the Baydhaba attack

Baydhaba (Caasimada Online) – The spokesperson of the South West State of Somalia, Mr. Mohamed Sheikh Abdullahi (Xaayow), who held a press conference in the city of Baydhaba, reported on the ongoing fighting in the city, which involved government forces, South West State militia, and troops loyal to Lafta-gareen.

Xaayow stated that the attack was launched by Al-Shabaab militants who aimed to disrupt the security of Baydhaba, mentioning that an unexpected lesson was delivered.

He also presented the names of Al-Shabaab leaders whom he claimed were leading the attack this morning on the interim capital of South West.

“This morning, the city was attacked by the suicide bombers and peace disruptors of Al-Shabaab, who wanted to create chaos and negativity in the city, led by individuals who are known as their commanders, including Macallin Saalax, a man named Jaylaani, Guuleed, and Xasan Yacquub who are from these areas,” said the spokesperson of South West.

He further added, “Thanks to God, a lesson was delivered to the heroes of the armed forces and the South West militia, which was an unforgettable lesson. We tell the public to remain calm; the situation in the city is peaceful.”

The spokesperson of South West also noted that in the coming hours, they will provide further details about the battle and will present the casualties inflicted on the attackers and the prisoners they have captured.

On the other hand, a spokesperson for the Cabdicasiis Lafta-gareen group also claimed victory in the battle, stating that their forces have entered the city, and the operation is still ongoing, urging the public to remain in their homes.

"Victory is near; the city of Baydhaba and all of South West will soon be under our control if God wills," said Ugaas Xasan.

The battle in Baydhaba has recurred in recent months, significantly affecting the overall security of the city, which previously held elections organized by the central government of South West, resulting in the election of Sheekh Aadan Madoobe.
