Madoobe shares development needs of South West with Qatar

Mogadishu, June 18, 2026 – The President of the South West State, Mr. Sheikh Aadan Maxamed Nuur (Madoobe), today held a meeting in Mogadishu with the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Somalia, Ambassador Dr. Abdullaahi Binu Salem Al Nuaimi, focusing on strengthening cooperation and expanding development projects that the State of Qatar is implementing in the South West regions.

This meeting is of great importance to South West, as Qatar is one of the largest donors to Somalia, particularly in the areas of social services, water, health, and education. South West, which is one of the regions most vulnerable to drought and economic hardship, needs new investments to develop infrastructure and mitigate the impact of recurring crises.

“I would like to thank the State of Qatar for its continued support to Somalia,” said President Madoobe. “South West is ready to strengthen cooperation and implement effective projects that benefit the people of the South West regions.”

The President added that South West is ready to work with Qatar in the areas of water infrastructure, energy, roads, and agricultural development, to reduce the impact of droughts and enhance food self-sufficiency. He stated that development projects are among the top priorities of his administration.

Ambassador Dr. Abdullaahi Binu Salem Al Nuaimi first congratulated the elected President, wishing him success and progress during his leadership of the South West State. He stated that Qatar will continue to support Somalia and is ready to increase development projects in South West, particularly in the areas of water, health, and education.

This meeting is part of the efforts of the South West State Government to attract international investment. Both sides agreed to continue high-level discussions, with expectations that preliminary agreements regarding new projects will be signed in the coming days.
