Madoobe Shares Development Needs of South West

Mogadishu, June 18, 2026 – The President of the South West State, Mr. Sheikh Aadan Maxamed Nuur (Madoobe), today held a fruitful meeting in Mogadishu with the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Somalia, Ambassador Wang Yu, focusing on strengthening cooperation and increasing development projects in the South West region.

This meeting is of great importance to South West, which is one of the Somali regional states most in need of infrastructure development, water, roads, and social services. China, being one of the largest donors to Somalia, has previously participated in several projects, and it is expected to continue its support for this region.

“I would like to thank the Government of China for its continuous support for Somalia,” said President Madoobe. “We need to increase development projects being implemented in the South West region to accelerate the progress of social services and economic growth.”

The President added that South West is ready to work with China in the areas of infrastructure investment, road construction, energy, and agricultural development, to mitigate the impact of droughts and enhance food self-sufficiency.

Ambassador Wang Yu congratulated President Madoobe on his election, and he reaffirmed China's commitment to strengthening cooperation. He expressed the readiness of the Government of China to support development efforts and effective projects being implemented in South West, particularly in the areas of water, education, and health.

This meeting is part of the efforts of the South West Government to strengthen relations with international donors and attract investment. Both sides agreed to continue high-level dialogue, with expectations that preliminary agreements regarding new projects will be signed in the coming days.
