The United States and Iran Reach Agreement to End Middle East Conflict

Jun 18 (Jowhar) - An unexpected victory at the Palace of Versailles has led to efforts to halt the Middle East war, after U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed an agreement under which Tehran will reduce its enriched uranium in exchange for substantial economic aid.

Mr. Trump signed the agreement during a candlelit dinner at Versailles following the G7 summit, with the host French President Emmanuel Macron and other guests applauding, according to a video posted by a Trump aide.

“He has signed it now,” Mr. Trump told reporters as he exited the palace.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei, quoted by the state news agency IRNA, stated that the document “was finalized with the signatures of the presidents.”

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who mediated the agreement, stated that “it will be implemented swiftly.”

This agreement is intended to conclude the chapter of the conflict initiated by the United States and Israel on February 28, which triggered Iranian retaliation in the form of missiles and drones in the region effectively closing the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for the global economy.

Trump remarked: ‘This was not easy’ as he signed the Iran agreement at Versailles.

The United States responded by blocking Iranian port exports.

“The first step, the Islamic Republic of Iran will quickly reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and the U.S. will promptly lift the maritime blockade,” Mr. Sharif wrote.

Additionally, Washington also promises to quickly ease the oil sanctions that have crippled Iran's economy.

Once a final agreement is reached on the Islamic Republic's nuclear program, the United States will also facilitate the release of a $300 billion reconstruction fund supported by regional countries, as stated in the agreement.

The signing was initially expected to be carried out by Iran's top negotiator and the parliamentary spokesman, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and U.S. Vice President JD Vance.

Iran later stated that a personal ceremony was not necessary.

However, Mr. Sharif indicated that an official ceremony would take place tomorrow in Switzerland, and technical discussions would begin.
