The United States Resumes Airstrikes Against Al-Shabaab in Somalia

Mogadishu – U.S. forces have resumed airstrikes against the Al-Shabaab group operating within Somalia, as confirmed by officials from the U.S. military.

According to statements from the United States Africa Command, in collaboration with the Federal Government of Somalia, a series of airstrikes were conducted last week, comprising five different operations.

These airstrikes specifically occurred in areas located in southern Somalia, including around the city of Kismayo, where Al-Shabaab has long established bases to organize their attacks.

According to military data, these airstrikes came after nearly a month without reported operations of this kind, which was a brief pause in the air operations against the group.

However, AFRICOM clarified that this pause was not related to an official cessation of operations, but was based on a strategic assessment and the need for accurate intelligence to target specific objectives.

The command also stated that the airstrikes are based on verified intelligence, and their purpose is to weaken Al-Shabaab's capabilities and support the Somali government forces in their fight against the group.

Finally, AFRICOM noted that the overall objective of these operations is to strengthen efforts to eradicate terrorism and support Somali forces to continue operations against Al-Shabaab within the country.
