The United States Kills ISIS Leader in Airstrike in Syria

The U.S. military conducted airstrikes in northwestern Syria last week, resulting in the death of a senior ISIS leader, according to a statement from U.S. Central Command published on Wednesday.

The U.S. military command stated that the strike occurred on June 19, killing leader Ali Husayn al-‘Ulaywi, a member of the ISIS group.

The U.S. military statement said, “This is part of ongoing U.S. efforts to disrupt and eliminate terrorists seeking to attack the United States” and that its forces will continue to work with regional partners.

“CENTCOM and our partners remain committed to rooting out the remnants of ISIS to ensure its enduring defeat,” said Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of CENTCOM.

ISIS has announced a new phase of operations against the government of President Ahmed al-Sharaa, carrying out consecutive attacks since February. Last year, the al-Sharaa government joined the U.S.-led coalition fighting ISIS.

On Saturday, the extremist group claimed responsibility for an attack near the city of Manbij in the Aleppo region of northeastern Syria.
